Modernizing Curriculum Review Workflow
Curriculum review is a complex process that consists of many stages and involves many faculty, staff, and administrators at the department, college, and university level. The current paper-based system is cumbersome, lengthy, and prone to errors due to issues with losing track of document status, revisions, and sometimes even the documents themselves. The Modernizing Curriculum Review Workflow (MCRW) Project has created a web-based system to facilitate and streamline this process. The new system uses a searchable repository to keep track of all the curriculum modification proposals, which include not just documents, but also document versions, current status, additional information such as proposal type, as well as comments and feedback collected along the way. Automated means such as email notifications, reminders, and time limits are used to ensure the review process proceeds in a timely manner. A number of websites, views, and user groups are created to allow easy and secure access to all the information during the review process, and this online infrastructure can also be used to support and manage other university processes in the future.
