Abstract

DIRECTV is one of the leading providers of television and audio services to subscribers through satellite transmissions in the United States. Their goal is to offer the latest in technology for home entertainment to their customers, and as a result, the Philips hue Lighting System will be incorporated into existing television equipment to improve customers' viewing experience.

hueTV is an Android application that controls how the Philips hue Lighting System synchronizes with the DIRECTV set-top box. The application will be able to trigger Philips hue lights based on light tracks during the user's movie. Light tracks are composed of JSON commands that control various settings of the Philip hue lights.

Both the light tracks and the set-top box are manipulated via native controls built into the application. These controls include starting, stopping, fast-forwarding, and rewinding the light track and movie. As a result, the application allows users to have a simple and immersive movie experience.
