Viper Rocks!
Viper Rocks! 2024-2025
The Viper Rocks! is sponsored by NASA JPL and is currently in its second year. The Viper Rocks! Website Experience serves as the public's personal connection to the VIPER (Volatiles Investigating Polar Exploration Rover) project. People from the public dubbed Citizen Scientists will be able to complete tasks to help gain further understanding of the lunar surface using images from the VIPER mission. Citizen scientists will do 3 tasks including:
- Scouting - Citizen Scientists will count the number of rocks.
- Sizing - Citizen Scientists will trace around any significant rock and the system will automatically calculate the size based on the image.
- Classification - Citizen Scientists will classify the type of rock after previous users have done the sizing task using a diagram from NASA JPL.
A beta test of the Viper Rocks! Website Experience will be conducted in early April.
